From susconscious to reality on stage

5th Inshadow Festival 2013 / ESTAL Lisbon

From susconscious to reality on stage

Taught by Alicia Soto

This laboratory aims to make a bridge between somatic work, somatic movement and stage discourse, in which the performer is present in its entirety, in an integral way, with all its capabilities and enhancing its stage presence.

The workshop is divided into two parts.

Discover natural movement.

Using the ground as a starting point, as a mirror of our body positioning.

From the disinhibition of reality, using a natural landscape, emotion makes us discover and describe the mapping of our own anatomy. As we direct the mind towards the skeletal structure, the body will acquire freedom and fluidity, finding natural spaces within the body.

The liberation of our body comes with the use of the breath and with the awareness of an energy that flows from the body to the body.

The class will think about redirecting the energy that emanates and moves through the body. How can this energy continue and spread outside the body so that you can return to it again? How does this energy re-circulate? Is it continuous or can it stop?

Weight, energy and emotion lead us to a natural movement that allows us to discover our bodies in space and time, defining our emotional writing.

Improvisations

improvisation from the somatic movement

Learning in the construction and creation of improvisations that start from the somatic movement technique.

Starting from an external stimulus, we will work from the surrealist's method of automatic writing: action-reaction. Emotion flows, from the subconscious, connecting the body with the mind and emotion with the spirit, emerging new forms of expression and building sequences of movement with drama.

Starting from small individual improvisations until reaching group improvisations.

The idea is to explore the creative potential of contact improvisation by introducing the basics of movement improvisation by working in small groups to create a live dance dialogue using touch, movement, weight and balance.

The objective is that the individual consciousness of space, energy and body of one joins the power of a group energy creating a unique score of emotions that comes from a collective subconscious building a dramatic reality on stage.

Objectives:

This laboratory aims to make a bridge between somatic work, somatic movement, and stage discourse, in which the performer is present in its entirety, in an integral way, with all its capabilities, enhancing its stage presence.

Aimed at actors, dancers, performance and playwrights.
